Thiel student-athletes hear motivational speaker’s message on success beyond sports

GREENVILLE, Pa. (Aug. 26) -- Thiel College student-athletes heard a message about preparation, accountability and performing under pressure Tuesday as former United States Marine Joe Lamphere brought his "Bulletproof Mindset" presentation to campus.

Lamphere spoke to Thiel student-athletes yesterday on Maenpa Court in the College's Beeghly Gymnasium. The program focused on developing habits and decision-making skills that can help students succeed in competition, the classroom and life.

Athletics is a significant part of the student experience at Thiel, where about 55 percent of the student body participates in one of the College's 25 varsity sports and club teams.

Lamphere is the founder of PWT Solutions and has more than 20 years of experience training military personnel, law enforcement officers, corporate leaders and high-performing teams. His work focuses on developing the mindset, discipline and decision-making processes needed to perform effectively under pressure.

During the presentation, Lamphere challenged Thiel's student-athletes to look beyond wins and losses and consider the daily decisions that lead to long-term success. His "Bulletproof Mindset" approach emphasizes defining what winning looks like each day, establishing meaningful goals, developing a plan and creating accountability to follow through.

The session also explored the relationship between discipline, consistency and results; maintaining focus through adversity and setbacks; and building confidence through preparation. Lamphere also shared strategies for making sound decisions in pressure-filled situations.

The presentation was part of Thiel's programming supporting the development of student-athletes beyond competition and preparing them for success academically, athletically and personally.
