GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Thiel College men's lacrosse team dropped a close 12-10 loss against Washington and Jefferson College in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) play Wednesday night from the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
W&J picks up their second conference win as the Tomcats drop to 1-3 in PAC play.
The Presidents came out the gate with three straight goals to set the tone of the game. Thiel's
Quentin Cato (Rochester, N.Y./Gates Chili) notched the first goal for the Tomcats halfway through the first quarter, assisted by
Logan Millie (Fairview, Pa./Fairview).
Both teams traded goals to end the first with W&J up 6-3, Blue and Gold goals added by
Joey King (Cooperstown, Pa./Maplewood) and Millie.
Thiel got hot, netting four straight goals to open the second quarter and take the 7-6 lead.
Austin Parker (Titusville, Pa./Maplewood) and
Dom Baker (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg) scored their first of the game, as Millie and Cato got their second.
The rest of the game was a back and forth battle between the two teams. Millie scored man-up to start the third and W&J notched one to tie it at eight.
The Presidents took over in the fourth, outscoring Thiel 4-2 to take the 12-10 victory.
Millie controlled the attack with four goals, one assist and six ground balls. Baker had a game best 12 ground balls and caused two turnovers while also adding a goal and an assist. Parker went 13-for-23 on the face-off and picked up six ground balls.
In net,
Ethan Narby (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) made 18 saves off 60 total shots and grabbed 10 ground balls.
Thiel picked up 47 total ground balls compared to W&J's 42, and won 14 face-offs compared to the Presidents 11.
The Blue and Gold are back in action on Saturday, Apr. 4 as they host Hiram for senior day at 3 p.m.
