Thiel Falls in Competitive Clash at Allegheny

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Thiel College women's basketball team battled throughout but came up just short in a 69-60 loss to Allegheny College on Wednesday night at the Wise Center.

Thiel got off to a strong start shooting efficiently and moving the ball well outscoring the gators 22-21 in the beginning quarter.

Allegheny slowly chipped away and gained momentum in the second half,  going 17-for-34, shooting 50% from the floor. The Gators tightened up defensively and made key stops, forcing the Tomcats to 39% from the field.

Thiel kept battled until the final buzzer to cut the deficit to just nine points in the fourth, but couldn't complete the comeback.

Sophomore Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) shot a team best 17 points, going 7-for-15 from the floor, and grabbing six boards.

Point guard Issy Green (Slippery Rock, Pa./Portersville Christian) followed Risser with 14 points, while dishing out five assists and swiping two steals. Green went 5-for-7 from the paint and 3-for-5 from the free throw line.

Emily Betsinger (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) helped the offense with 10 points, as Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) put up eight. Betsinger secured seven boards, as Stephens grabbed a game best of eight.

The Blue and Gold will host Grove City for senior day and their final game of the 2025-26 season on Saturday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. from Maenpa Court in Beeghly Gymnasium.
