GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 3) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball team secured a sweep of Saint Vincent College Saturday afternoon in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) action from Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats rise to 5-5 (2-1) with set wins of 27-25, 25-18, 25-19 while the Bearcats dip to 4-8 (2-1).
The Cats used an 8-0 run to climb ahead 20-14 in the opening frame as the run was capped with a pair of blocks from
Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex). Saint Vincent answered with 6-of-7 before the Cats tallied 3 of the final 4 to take set one 27-25.
Stephens posted seven kills and no errors on 18 swings to hit .389. She added a trio of blocks in the win.
Hannah Myers (Warren, Ohio/John F. Kennedy Catholic) logged back-to-back kills in set two to make it 20-17 Thiel. A visitors sideout followed by an
Addi Vagi (Marysville, Mich./Marysville) kill kickstarted a set-ending 5-0 run to give Thiel a 2-0 edge.
Sarah Wilson (Rural Valley, Pa./West Shamokin) had two aces in the run as Vagi and
Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) combined for a block as well
Vagi led Thiel with nine kills on .286 along with six assists, four blocks and four digs. DeLattre contributed six kills along with a match-leading six blocks. Myers smacked eight kills on .467 while Wilson had 16 digs and two aces.
A kill from
Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) along with two more from Myers gave Thiel a 19-13 edge in set three. The visitors made a late push, but the Cats ended the match with a 5-1 run to secure the sweep.
Amory recorded seven kills and three blocks.
Owen Hansen (Lyman, Wyo./Lyman) had a career- and match-high 19 assists and six digs.
Rian Owens (Neshannock, Pa./Neshannock) added seven assists and four digs.
Thiel held a 65-57 edge in digs as
Jordan Yoder (Johnstown, Pa./Westmont Hilltop) had a contest-most 20.
Macie Williams (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) added nine digs. The Cats led in blocks (10-4) and kills (41-32) as well.
The Tomcats continue their homestand with a clash against Hiram next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
