GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Thiel College Women's Basketball team battled against Grove City for a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) match-up, but ultimately fell 58-39 Wednesday evening.
Thiel drops to 5-11 overall and 0-7 in the PAC, as the Wolverines advance to 11-5 (5-2).
The Tomcats struggled offensively early and faced a big deficit out of the gate after scoring only four points in the first quarter.
Thiel rallied in the second to outscore Grove City 19-11 by shooting 43.8% from the floor and hitting key threes to cut into the Grove City lead to 34-23 at the half.
Point guard
Issy Green (Slippery Rock, Pa./Portersville Christian) led Thiel with 12 points, knocking down four field goals and two threes, and dishing out five assists.
Sophomore's
Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) and
Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) helped Thiel on the offensive end of the court. Risser added nine points, along with eight rebounds, as Stephens chipped in six points and a game-high 12 points to anchor Thiel's defense.
Thiel is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 24 to host the Franciscan Barons at 1 p.m., prior to Thiel's Athletic Hall of Fame Ceremony kicking off at 7 p.m.
