GREENVILLE, Pa – The Thiel College Men's Soccer team fell to the Alma College Scots 4-2 Sunday afternoon from Alumni Stadium at Stober Field.
Thiel dropped to 1-3 on the season, as the Scots advanced to 1-1-1.
Alma got on the board halfway through the first half, taking the early 1-0 lead.
In the 65th minute of the match, Alma extended their lead to 2-0 and quickly responded again to get up 3-0.
A comeback from the Tomcats came at the 76th minute of the game by a goal from Zack Loeser (Long Island, N.Y./Rocky Point) after a corner kick opportunity.
Four minutes later, Thiel responded with another goal by Rylan Piccirilli (Sharpsville, Pa./Sharpsville), who was assisted by freshman Mason Melaragno (Erie, Pa./Fairview).
In the last minute of the match, Alma was able to sneak in a fourth goal to safely secure their victory.
Freshman Gino Pompei (Pine Grove, Pa./Pine Grove Area) and Loeser led Thiel with two shots each.
Goalkeeper Bryce Stefanowicz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) played 76 minutes and made three saves as freshman Dylan Budziak (Mentor, Ohio/Mentor) made his first career start for Thiel and made two saves in the last 13 minutes of the match.
The Tomcats return to action on Tuesday, September 9 when they travel to Berea, Ohio to take on the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets at 7 p.m.
