Women's Volleyball falters at Fredonia

FREDONIA, N.Y. (Sept. 9) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball team fell in straight sets at Fredonia in non-conference action Tuesday evening from Dods Hall.

The loss snaps the Tomcats' five-match winning streak and drops the Blue and Gold to 5-3 while the Blue Devils rise to 2-3 with set score wins of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-9 to avenge last weekends four-set loss to Thiel.

The home side used an extended 11-2 spurt to grab a 15-8 set-one edge. The visitors tallied 5-of-6 points to get within 2 at 22-20, but Fredonia got 3 of the next 4 to go ahead 1-0. Fredonia used extended runs of 11-0 in set two and 14-0 in set three to take control of the match and run away with the sweep.

Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kan./Mineral Ridge) dug a match and season-best 20 balls to run her career total to 1,759. She has produced at least 11 digs in each of the last six matches and 7-of-8 matches on the year. Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) added seven digs and 10 assists.

Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) paced the Thiel offense with six kills, but ultimately hit in the red with 12 attacking errors on 43 swings (-.140). She added nine digs. Aaleeah Brennan (North Port, Fla./Florida Virtual School), Madyson Cikosh (Cortland, Ohio/Maplewood), Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) and Caitlin Stephens (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) each added a pair of kills each, with Cikosh also adding two solo blocks.

While the Tomcats held the Blue Devils to .090 hitting, the home side limited Thiel to a season-worst -.083 hitting.

Women's Volleyball returns to action next Wednesday, Sept. 17,  when they open Presidents' Athletic Conference play against Westminster in the home opener at 7 p.m. on Maenpa Court.
