GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Thiel College Men's Soccer team used two second half goals to clinch the victory over Carlow University Saturday night from Alumni Stadium at Stober Field.
The Tomcats advanced to 1-1 on the season as the Celtics fell to 0-1.
Ten minutes into the second half, junior Derek Thomas (Poland, Ohio/Poland) headed a goal for the Tomcats to give them the 1-0 lead. Thomas was assisted by Grant Becker (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted) off the corner kick.
Quickly after Thomas, junior Pierson Badowski (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) netted a gritty goal in the box, assisted by freshman Mason Melaragno (Erie, Pa./Fairview).
Mitchell Strauss (Bradford, Pa./Bradford Area) led the offense with eight shots, four of them being on goal.
Badowski had four shots as juniors Grant Becker (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted) and Trey Grazier (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) each had a pair of shots.
The Tomcat held the back line to hold Carlow off to zero shots on goal giving Bryce Stefanowicz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) his first win of the season.
Thiel is back in action on Wednesday, September 3 when they host Pitt Bradford at 7 p.m.
