BEAVER FALLS, Pa. -- The Thiel College Softball team split their Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) road doubleheader to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes with a 4-0 loss and 8-2 victory Saturday afternoon.
The Tomcats are now 9-7 overall ad 3-3 in the PAC, while Geneva is 14-4 on the season and 3-3 in the conference.
Game 1
Geneva took the early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and two more in the second to take the 4-0 victory.
Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) and Alaina Fedder (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield Area) both had hits off three at bats.
Pitcher Becca Landis (Kinsman, Ohio/Mathews) threw for six innings and had five total strikeouts.
Game 2
In the top of the second inning, Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) doubled to left field and was brought home from an error made by the short stop. Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) advanced to home from a single from Risser while Ava Gilmore (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex Area) ran home off a triple from Jensen Stehlik (Sagamore Hills, Ohio/Nordonia) and later earned a run from a double from Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) to take the 5-2 lead.
Rottman and Risser both scored off sacrifice fly from Gilmore and Heid in the sixth and seventh innings to secure the 8-2 win.
Herman had three hits on the day, including a double and a walk. Risser and Stehlik each had two hits, Risser with one RBI and two runs, while Stehlik had two RBIs and one run.
Landis took the win with 7.0 innings pitched and four strikeouts.
The Tomcats are back in action on Sunday, March 30 when they travel to Monaca, Pa. To tale on Penn State Beaver. The non-conference doubleheader is scheduled for 2 and 4 p.m.
