FT. PIERCE, Fla. (March 13) -- The Thiel College Baseball team finished Monday's suspended showdown with Wheaton College Thursday evening and ultimately fell 7-5 from Lawnwood Baseball Complex.
The Tomcats drop to 2-6 while the Thunder rise to 3-7. The game was suspended with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning with Thiel trailing 7-5.
Wheaton jumped to a 7-0 lead heading into the bottom of the eighth as they tallied runs in the first, fourth, sixth and eighth. A
Nathen Prunty (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) double and walks to
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) and
Fletcher Hindman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) set the stage for
Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) to notch a 2-run single up the middle to make it 7-2.
Prunty was 1-for-5 with a run while Morrison was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.
Hewitt Wilt (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) worked a 1-2-3 ninth with a pair of K's.
Max Bihler (Delaware, Ohio/Olentangy Berlin) singled and
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) walked in the bottom of the ninth as the Tomcats looked to make a comeback. Cackowski stepped to the dish with two outs and roped a 3-run bomb over the right-center wall to make it 7-5. The game went into a lightning delay shortly thereafter and was officially suspended later in the day.
Cackowski was 2-for-4 with three RBI, 2 runs and a walk. Bihler had a hit and a run in the contest.
Fast forward to today and
Nick Jacobs (New Castle, Pa./Union) stepped to the dish and ultimately flew out to end the game.
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) got the loss after going 4.1 innings.
Josh Ickes (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) struckout four in 2.2 innings of relief while Wilt struckout two in 1.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Baseball returns to action tomorrow for a 10 a.m. clash with Kenyon from Lawnwood Baseball Complex.
