Tomcats downed at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. (Dec. 6) -- The Thiel College Men's Basketball team dropped a 77-67 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) North Division clash to Westminster College Saturday afternoon on Ron Galbreath Court inside Buzz Ridl Gymnasium. 

The Tomcats drop to 4-5 (1-1) while the Titans improve to 4-3 (1-1). 

Thiel used a 12-1 second-half run to get within 3 at 66-63 on an Anthony Henderson II (Miramar, Fla./Somerset Academy) bucket with 3:51 remaining in the contest. Das Sanders (Dallas, Texas/Fort Worth Christian) and Logan Lentz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) each had 3 points in the run while John DiCecco (Indianapolis, Ind./Lebanon) had 4. Westminster answered with 11 of the final 15 to quell the Blue and Gold's comeback efforts. 

Sanders posted a career-high-tying 15 points on 6-of-14 to go with three boards and and three helpers. Lentz contributed 7 points on the afternoon while DiCecco finished with 4.

Henderson II logged 6 points, seven boards and a team-best four helpers.

Thiel carried a 38-34 lead into the break after shooting 60 percent (15-of-25) in the first 20 minutes. The Tomcats turned a 5-3 deficit into a 13-5 edge with a 10-0 spurt capped on a Khamari Accursio-Harris (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter) floater 5 minutes into the game. Accursio-Harris had 5 points in the run while Kadenne Kemp (Inglewood, Cali./Northgate (Pa.)) had 3 and Sanders had 2.

Accursio-Harris led Thiel with 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting and 2-of-4 from deep. He also nabbed a team-best eight boards and dished out three assists.

Kemp pitched in 9 points on 3-of-6 from the field and 3-of-3 at the stripe. 

The Tomcats were without starting point guard Mike Brown (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park) due to injury. Adrian Llamo (Naples, Fla./Naples) started in his place and logged 3 points and four boards.

Thiel held a 23-14 advantage in bench points while shooting 41 percent from the field (25-of-61). Westminster sat at 44.6 percent (29-of-65). 

The Tomcats return to action next Sunday, Dec. 14 for a 2 p.m. showdown at DI Youngstown State.
