ALFRED, N.Y. -- The Thiel College Women's Basketball team fell to Alfred University in the Alfred State Tournament Championship 67-53 Saturday afternoon.
Thiel drops to 2-2 on the year as the Saxons advance to a perfect 4-0.
Despite ending the first quarter at 19 even, Alfred went on to outscore the Tomcats 14-8 in the second quarter to give themselves a six point lead at half.
Thiel was unable to come back in the second half due to a lock down defense from the Saxons in the paint.
Sophomore guard
Issy Green (Slippery Rock, Pa./Portersville Christian) led the offense with 14 points and grabbed a team high nine rebounds. Green dished out five assist and grabbed three steals.
Kayley Risser (Reynoldsville, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) dropped 13 points as
Emily Betsinger (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) put up 10. Betsinger grabbed seven boards and two steals and Risser dished out two assists, grabbed three steals and five boards.
Kelsey Seddon (Cochranton, Pa./Lakeview) helped Thiel's defensive end by grabbing seven boards and dishing out four assists while droppping six points.
The Tomcats return to action on Saturday, November 22 when they travel to Cleveland, Ohio to take on Case Western Reserve at 1 p.m.
