GREENVILLE, Pa. (Oct. 22) -- The Thiel College Women's Volleyball dropped a straight-set decision to Grove City College Wednesday evening on Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium in Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) North Division action.
The Tomcats dip to 13-6 (8-3) while the Wolverines rise to 13-6 (6-5) with set score wins of 25-18, 25-18 and 26-24.
The first set was knotted at 6 before the visitors rattled off a 12-0 run to pull ahead 18-6 as the Tomcats were stuck in rotation one. The home side gained some momentum back as they tallied 8-of-9 points and 11-of-13 to get within 24-18, but a Wolverines sideout ended the set.
Arin DeLattre (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) had a block in the run.
DeLattre totaled a match-leading eight blocks (1 BS, 7 BA) and a team-high-tying 10 kills on .400. DeLattre surpassed 500 career kills in the loss.
An extended Grove City 9-1 run in set two grew the lead to 16-8. The Tomcats got within three at 21-18 as a
Daisy Jenness (Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton) kill started a 6-3 spurt for the Blue and Gold that was capped with three-straight
Kylee Jordan (Orrville, Ohio/Waynedale) kills. The road side went on to close with 4 in a row to go ahead 2-0.
Jordan logged seven kills and had four digs while Jenness tied DeLattre with 10 kills to lead the Tomcats.
Thiel jumped to a 5-0 set-three lead and led by as many as 7 at 14-7 and 15-8. A
Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) kill made it 18-14 before a 6-0 Grove City run put the Wolverines ahead 20-18. The road side had two match-point tries at 24-22, but back-to-back Jenness kills kept Thiel alive. The Wolverines notched the final 2 points to seal the sweep.
Amory posted six kills and had a pair of blocks.
Grobe City had a slight 68-64 edge in digs as
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kan./Mineral Ridge) had a match-best 21.
Alex Ball (Clymer, Pa./Indiana Area) logged nine digs while
Sarah Wilson (Rural Valley, Pa./West Shamokin) had seven and
Macie Williams (Cochranton, Pa./Cochranton) notched six.
The Tomcats totaled nine blocks (2 BS, 14 BA) as the Wolverines had 10 (3 BS, 14 BA).
Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) had a match-leading 27 assists and dug eight balls. She added four blocks (1 BS, 3 BA).
Thiel looks to get back in the win column Friday at 7 p.m. when they host Bethany in PAC interdivisional action.
