GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team defeated the Penn State Beaver Lions, 11-0, Thursday night under the lights at Alumni Stadium.
The Tomcats wasted no time, getting on the board in the second minute through
Abbey Balentine (Brunswick, Ohio/Brunswick). Five more goals in a 13-minute span gave the Tomcats a quick 6-0 lead.
Three more goals in the first half gave the Tomcats a 9-0 lead at halftime.
Two more goals in the second half would round out the scoring for Thiel.
Thiel was led by a trio of freshman.
Hannah Brady (Conneautville, Pa./Conneaut Area),
Stacie Weimert (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) and
Imogen deBlois (Hubbard, Ohio/Howland) all scored two goals apiece, with Weimert and deBlois both recording an assist. Balentine recorded two goals and an assist as well.
Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan)m
Kaleigh Atkins (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) and
Heather Farr (Conneaut, Ohio/Edgewood) all scored as well.
In goal for Thiel,
Brianna Hollandsworth (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) recorded her first collegiate clean sheet in her first career start.
The Tomcats return to action on Saturday when they travel to SUNY Brockport. The non-confernce game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
