deBlois’ eight points lead Tomcats past Lions

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's soccer team defeated the Penn State New Kensington Lions, 6-2, in a non-conference game Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.

The Tomcats got off to a fast start, opening a 3-0 lead inside the first 12 minutes of the match. Freshman Imogen deBlois (Hubbard, Ohio/Howland) scored the first three goals for her first collegiate hat trick.

Kaleigh Atkins (Parma, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) scored in the 40th minute, before a last-minute goal from the Lions gave the Tomcats a 4-1 lead at halftime.

Penn State New Kensington's Jada Norman scored in the 66th minute to cut the Thiel lead to 4-2, but goals from Skylar Garlick (Fort Loudon, Pa./James Buchanan) and Allie Kidder (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) rounded out the scoring to give Thiel the 6-2 win.

Thiel was led by deBlois, who recorded three goals and two assists (eight points). Stacie Weimert (Jamestown, Pa./Jamestown) recorded two assists, while Kenna Reinard (Hubbard, Ohio/Hubbard) also recorded an assist. Atkins, Garlick and Kidder all recorded one goal apiece.

For the Lions, Norman recorded one goal and one assist. Samara Ayodele recorded one goal on five shots.

In goal for Thiel, Brianna Hollandsworth (Spotsylvania, Va./Riverbend) got the start, making two saves. Madison Rodgers (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) played the second half, also making two saves.
For Penn State New Kensington, Air Wales recorded 12 saves.

The Tomcats will return to action on Saturday for senior day against Hiram. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at noon.
