HIRAM, Ohio – The Thiel College men's volleyball team closed out the regular season with a 3-2 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) loss to the Hiram Terriers on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Tomcats won the first set 25-19, before Hiram took the next two sets 25-13, 25-20. Thiel forced a fifth set with a 25-22 fourth set win. However, Hiram won the fifth set 15-8 to win the match.
Thiel was led by
Will Zimmerman (Cranberry, Pa./Seneca Valley) who recorded 11 kills and two digs, while
Kaleb Proudfoot (Butler, Pa./Butler) recorded seven kills and four blocks.
Josh Pugh (Wexford, Pa./Pine Richland) recorded a team-high 14 digs, while
Ben Lowell (Portland, Ore./Sunset) recorded three service aces and 29 assists.
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) added eight kills and nine digs.
Hiram was led by Jackson Deubner who recorded 20 kills and 10 digs. Kyle Martini recorded 18 kills and 18 digs, while Matthew Albano recorded 10 digs and 46 assists.
The Tomcats clinched the No. 3 seed in the upcoming AMCC Championship Tournament. The Tomcats will host the Geneva Golden Tornadoes Tuesday at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium. The first round match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
