PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The fifth-seeded Thiel Tomcats were defeated 9-8 Tuesday on the road in a PAC Championship Tournament quarterfinal game against the fourth-seeded Chatham Cougars.
The Tomcats trailed 6-2 at halftime but battled back in the second half to give themselves a chance to pull off the win at the end.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler) got Thiel within a goal (8-7) with 8:27 left in the fourth quarter. Wightman scored the game-tying goal with 4:58 remaining in regulation, but Chatham's Felica Hutter scored the game-winner 54 seconds later.
Chatham will face top-seeded Washington & Jefferson Thursday on the road in a tournament semifinal.
Wightman scored all eight of Thiel's goals. Hutter led the Cougars with five points (4G, 1A).
Thiel's
Madison Liggett (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) matched her season-high with 17 saves. Meghan Cuza-Berry made seven saves for the Cougars.
The Tomcats finished the season 9-7 overall and 5-4 in league play. It was Thiel's first appearance in the PAC Championship Tournament since 2021.
