HAMBURG, N.Y. –
Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land) scored 39 seconds into overtime Saturday to lift the Thiel College men's lacrosse team to a 7-6 non-conference win on the road over the Hilbert Hawks.
Lawler scored a game-high four goals, including the game-winner. He took 15 shots, 10 of which were on goal. He also picked up five ground balls and caused a turnover.
Thiel trailed 5-3 at halftime but entered the fourth quarter trailing by just a goal after Bennet Medyn scored an unassisted marker in the third frame.
Lawler tied up the game (5-5) early in the fourth quarter during a man-up opportunity on a pass from
John Robbins (Jeannette, Pa./Penn-Trafford).
Che Fuqua (Clairton, Pa./Lincoln Park Charter) gave the Tomcats the lead (6-5) roughly a minute later. The Tomcats maintained their one-goal lead until Jason Sage forced overtime when he scored with 14 seconds remaining in regulation.
Lawler did the rest in overtime, earning the win for the Tomcats on his team-leading 16
th goal of the season.
Fuqua scored two goals for the Tomcats while
Zach Melin (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon) registered two assists.
Bryce Knauf (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) won 11-of-13 faceoffs.
Matthew Kennedy paced Hilbert with three goals and an assist.
Ethan Narby (Bath, N.Y./Haverling) made six saves to earn the win. Griffin Miller made 16 saves for the Hawks.
Thiel will host Heidelberg at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome on Monday, March 18. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
