VERO BEACH, Fla. – The Thiel College baseball team lost a non-conference game to the Capital Comets, 14-8, Saturday afternoon at Holman Stadium inside the Jackie Robinson Training Complex.
Thiel got off to a good start, when
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) hit a lead-off home run to give the Tomcats and early 1-0. However, a seven-run fourth inning gave the Comets the lead for good.
Johnson went 2-for-5 at the plate including one RBI.
Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) drove in three runs while going 2-for-4 at the plate.
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) went 3-for-5 including two RBIs.
JT Gerle (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) drew two walks.
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) got the start on the mound for the Tomcats, going four innings, and giving up eight runs, only four of which were earned. He also struck out five batters.
Capital was led by Connor Feeney who went 3-for-5 with three RBIs, while Ben Stevens also went 3-for-5 with three RBIs.
Tyler Sickles went five innings, striking out four in the win.
The Tomcats will take on the Western Connecticut State Wolves on Sunday in Fort Pierce, Florida. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
