NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Thiel College softball team lost a pair of games Monday during play in the Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic.
The Tomcats lost to the Sweet Briar Vixens 7-2 and the Clarks Summit Defenders 7-6.
Mila Brdar (White Oak, Pa./McKeesport) went 2-for-3 at the plate against Sweet Briar while freshman catcher
Sophia Householder (Conneaut, Ohio/Conneaut) drove in a run in the fourth inning.
Sweet Briar's Alyssa Taylor allowed just one hit and struck out seven batters in 3 1/3 innings of relief work to earn the save.
Thiel took a 2-0 lead over Clarks Summit in the first inning.
Mackenzie Herman (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) hit a run-scoring triple in the inning and scored on a single by Brdar.
The Defenders tied up the game in the top of the fourth, but the Tomcats took their 2-run lead back in the bottom of the inning when
Kylie Heid (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) hit a 2-RBI single to right field.
Thiel maintained a 4-2 lead until Clarks Summit scored five runs over the final two innings. Thiel added two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on RBIs from Brdar and
Kayla Roddy (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills), but couldn't come up with a third run to force extra innings.
Heid went 2-for-4 with two RBIs against Clarks Summit. Brdar went 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Herman tripled while
Adryonna Herbst (McDonald, Pa./Fort Cherry) doubled.
The Fastpitch Dreams Spring Classic continues Tuesday. The Tomcats will face the Scranton Royals at 9 a.m. and the Dean Bulldogs at 1 p.m.
