Women’s basketball drops heartbreaker to Pitt Greensburg

GREENVILLE, Pa. -- The Thiel College Women's Basketball team lost a heart breaker 74-72 in the final minutes against Pitt Greensburg.  

Freshman Issy Green (Slippery Rock, Pa./Portersville Christian) grabbed two quick steals to open the second quarter, giving Thiel an early quarter advantage. After being down, the Tomcats outscored Pitt Greensburg in the second quarter to take the 34-29 lead at halftime.  

A 20-16 fourth quarter from Thiel fell short of victory, even with the Tomcats keeping Pitt Greensburg to 33% from the field.  

Green led Thiel's offense with a career-high of 25 points, with seven steals, four rebounds and three assists. She had a first half surge of 15 points and four steals, while also going 6-8 from the field. 

Kayley Risser (Reynolds, Pa./Dubois Central Catholic) (18), Josie Lewis (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) (11), and Catherine Kelly (Butler, Pa./Moniteau) (10) all had 10+ point games to steer the Tomcat offense. Lewis also picked up seven steals, while Risser grabbed six rebounds. Kelly had five rebounds and three assists.  

Freshman Lyndzee Amory (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) had a career and team high of 11 rebounds, while also picking up 6 points and two steals.  

The Bobcat offense was led by four players with 10 or more points. Tiana Moracco had a team high of 20 points, 16 rebounds, five steals and five assists. Autumn Matthews had 17 points while Jocelyn Bielak and Rakiyah Porter each picked up 10.  

Bielak grabbed 11 rebounds, while Porter and Matthews each had three.  

The Tomcats remain at home for a double header against Grove City on Saturday, January 4th. The PAC match-up will begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by the men's team at 3:00 p.m.
