WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Thiel College football team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets, 37-10, on the road at John F. Wiley Stadium Saturday afternoon.
With Thiel's opening drive,
Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) was able to pick up a first down on the first play from scrimmage. However, Waynesburg would then force a Thiel punt.
With Waynesburg's first offensive possession, they started with good field position, and a 13 yard run from Zayne Crawley put the Yellow Jackets in Thiel territory.
However, Thiel would force a punt, and would start the next drive at their own 19-yard line.
Thiel would get the offense going on their second drive, but a slew of penalties would force the Tomcats to punt the ball away again.
On Waynesburg's next possession, they would drive down the field, getting into the red zone. But a big defensive stand by the Tomcats, ending with
Jake Badger (Mercer, Pa./Mercer Area) forcing a fumble that would be recovered by
Jaellen Rose (Midlothian, Va./James River).
However, with their ensuing drive, the Tomcats could not get anything going, and again had to punt.
Waynesburg opened the scoring midway through the second quarter, scoring on a 28-yard touchdown pass.
Thiel would put a drive together to respond, but a fumble at the Waynesburg 12-yard line would give the ball back to the Yellow Jackets.
Thiel would force a three-and-out, with Thiel putting together another good drive on the ensuing drive.
The Tomcats would get on the board with just over one-minute remaining in the first half, with
Dreyvin Livingston (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) converting a 21-yard field goal.
Waynesburg would march down the field and tack on another touchdown right before halftime to go up 14-3.
Waynesburg would tack on another touchdown with 7:34 left in the third quarter to go up 20-3.
Waynesburg would score on all three fourth quarter drives to go up 37-3, before
Jayveerh White (Sharon, Pa./Sharon) punched in the Tomcats' only touchdown of the day late in the fourth quarter from five yards out.
Daniel Rennie (Cape Coral, Fla./Oasis) led the Tomcats threw the air, completing 15 passes for 141 yards.
Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) had a career day on the ground, carrying the ball 24 times for 148 yards. Logan's 148 rushing yards is the most in a game for the Tomcats since Nick Barca rushed for 215 yards against Geneva in 2017. White added 29 yards on three carries and a touchdown, while
Marquis Tarver (Dickinson, Texas/Clear Falls) added 24 yards on seven carries.
Jason Stone (Chester, Pa./Chester) caught four passes for 59 yards, while
Blake Joseph (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) caught three passes for 33 yards.
Defensively,
Matt Jordan (New Castle, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) paced the Tomcats with seven tackles, including 0.5 tackles for a loss. Rose had six tackles, including one sack and a fumble recovery.
Chad Morningstar (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain) made five tackles, while
Thomas Howard (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) also made five tackles.
For Waynesburg, Samuel Barber completed 14 of 17 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns.
Zayne Crawley had 17 carries for 81 yards and one touchdown, while Hunter Cameron added 21 yards on three carries and one touchdown. Brian Scott-Hill also added a touchdown.
Tyler Richmond caught four passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Isaac Trout caught seven passes for 85 yards.
Defensively, Jemuel Cypress made 13 tackles and added a forced fumble. Quilik Wooten added 10 tackles and a forced fumble that he would recover, while Vinnie Heller added six tackles.
The Tomcats will close out the 2024 season on the road against the Bethany Bison. The PAC game is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
