GREENVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 25) -- Thiel College men's basketball forward
Rob Thomas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) was tabbed as the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Newcomer of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
Thomas averaged 12.5 points, four rebounds, one assist and one block while shooting 80% (12-of-15) from the field across Thiel's two PAC triumphs over
Allegheny Wednesday (67-62) and
Saint Vincent Saturday (73-70).
Against Saint Vincent, Thomas posted a team- and career-best 18 points on 9-of-11 (81.8%) to go with five rebounds, one assist and one steal in 25 minutes of action off the bench. Versus Allegheny, Thomas pitched in 7 points on 3-of-4 while posting a team-high-tying two blocks to go with three rebounds in 22 minutes of action.
Thomas is shooting a team-best 59.5% (25-of-42) from the field on the year. Though he has not averaged enough minutes to qualify for the PAC leader board, he would be third in shooting percentage. His five blocked shots on the year are tied for the team lead and tied for ninth most in the conference. Thomas' nine made field goals against Saint Vincent are tied for the third most made in a game by any PAC player this season .
The Penn Hills High School product was instrumental in the Tomcats' dramatic victory over the Bearcats Saturday. The Blue and Gold shot 63% (17-of-27) from the field and 80% (8-of-10) at the line in the second half to seal the victory.
Men's basketball returns to action Tuesday for a road matchup with reigning PAC champions Geneva at 7:30 p.m.
