GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's soccer team tied a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game against the Bethany Bison, 2-2, Wednesday night under the lights at Alumni Stadium.
Prior to the game, the Tomcats honored
Hunter Blatt (Greenville, Pa./Greenville),
Samuel Denu (Silver Spring, Md./James Hubert Blake),
David Fourman (Pataskla, Ohio/Watkins Memorial),
Kevin Gilroy (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls),
Evan Kosenina (Clinton, Pa./West Allegheny),
Jonah Lentz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) and
Kyle Magdich (Pittsburgh, Pa./South Fayette) for senior day.
Thiel got off to a quick start, taking an early 1-0 lead behind
Mitchell Strauss' (Bradford Pa./Bradford Area) fifth goal of the season off a pass from
Carson Maurer (Poland, Ohio/Poland).
However, Bethany quickly equalized, taking less than three minutes to even the score 1-1.
Less than eight minutes later,
Pierson Badowski (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) gave the Tomcats' their second lead of the night, 2-1.
The Tomcats would go into the half up 2-1.
In the 61
st minute, the Bison earned a penalty kick, that was eventually converted to once again tie the game, 2-2.
Both teams had chances in the second half, but neither team could find the back of the net the rest of the match.
Thiel was led by Strauss who recorded one goal on three shots. Badowski and
Grant Becker (North Olmsted, Ohio/North Olmsted) each tallied two shots, while Blatt and Kosenina also recorded one shot each. Maurer provided one assist.
Bethany was led by Pedro Chillemi who recorded both goals. Taivier Stewart recorded an assist and six shots.
In goal for Thiel,
Bryce Stefanowicz (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) recorded six saves.
For Bethany, Matteo Pintus notched three saves.
The Tomcats finished the season 7-8-2 (2-7-1 PAC). The seven wins are the second most in program history, and the seven PAC points are the most since 2010 when they recorded nine PAC points.
The Tomcats also started the season 4-0, their best start since they started 3-1 in 2018.
