GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team picked up a crucial Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) win over the Westminster Titans, 77-64, Saturday afternoon at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The Tomcats improved to 7-13 (6-9 PAC), while Westminster falls to 9-10 (7-8 PAC).
Thiel opened up an 11-8 lead heading into the first media timeout. The Tomcats closed the first with an 8-4 spurt to take a 45-38 lead into halftime.
The Titans opened the second half with an 11-2 run to take a 49-47 lead. A three-pointer by
Ethan Barnes (Boynton Beach, Fla./Suncoast) gave the Tomcats the lead back, before the Titans went on a 6-0 run to take a 55-50 lead.
Thiel responded with a 10-2 run to take the lead back for good.
Thiel went on a 24-9 run in the final 14:37 to win the conference game.
Thiel had five players in double figures, led by
Elijah Harden (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) who recorded 16 points and six assists.
Ethan Barnes (Boynton Beach, Fla./Suncoast) recorded 15 points, while
Rayshod Hooper (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
Jonah Biggers (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) recorded 12 points, while fellow freshman
Khamari Accursio-Harris (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter) recorded 10 points.
Westminster was led by Quincy Jones who recorded 14 points and 12 rebounds. Andrew Clark recorded 12 points and 10 boards, while Reese Leone recorded 12 points.
The Tomcats led the Titans in bench points (32-11), second chance points (25-10) and fast break points (16-10).
The Tomcats will play the second game of a two-game homestand on Wednesday when they host the Chatham Cougars. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
