Tomcats fall to Presidents

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on the road Saturday to the Washington & Jefferson Presidents, 56-14.
 
The Presidents held a 35-0 lead late in the second quarter. The Tomcats made it 35-7 with a little more than one minute remaining before halftime when Donny Pattison (Bradford, Pa./Bradford Area) scored on a 2-yard run to cap off an 11-play, 71-yard drive that consumed 4:36 of the game clock. Preston Lefkowitz (Warren, Ohio/Champion) added the extra point.
 
W&J scored three more touchdowns in the third quarter to hold a 56-7 lead. Thiel scored the last touchdown of the game, a 1-yard run by Andrew Plowden (Homewood, Pa./Penn Hills Charter), with 14:05 remaining in the fourth quarter.
 
Jacob Pugh completed 14-of-19 passes for the Presidents for 187 yards. He threw three touchdown passes and one interception. All three of Pugh's touchdown passes were to John Peduzzi, who caught five passes for 96 yards.
 
Kobe Derosa led W&J on the ground with 58 yards on three carries. Owen Petrisek ran for 43 yards and a score on six totes.
 
Thiel's Christian Marantis (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) completed 13 passes for 103 yards. Blake Joseph (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) caught six passes for 47 yards while Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land) had three catches for 25 yards.
 
Plowden led the Tomcats with 57 yards on 19 carries.
 
Da'Mier Clark (McKeesport, Pa./McKeesport) led Thiel's defense with five tackles, 1.5 of which were for a loss of yards. Darnell Jordan (Pittsburgh, Pa./Westinghouse) made four tackles and intercepted a pass while Deondre Brown (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) had 1.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and a sack.
 
Keaton Hall led the Presidents with seven tackles. Avery Keith and Dawson Dietz tallied two sacks apiece.
 
Thiel (1-3) will host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (0-4) during homecoming next Saturday. Kickoff at Alumni Stadium is set for 3 p.m.
