Tomcats split doubleheader with Geneva

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team split a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) doubleheader on the road with the Geneva Golden Tornadoes.
 
The Tomcats took game one 7-2 before dropping game two 8-7.
 
Game one saw the Tomcats take a 3-0 lead in the first inning, and never trailed the remainder of the game.
 
In game one, Aidan Ochs (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Veron) led the Tomcats going 4-for-6. Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) went 1-for-4 with one RBI and two walks, while Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) went 2-for-3 with with one RBI and two walks. Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley), Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe), Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley), Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley) and Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) all recorded an RBI.
 
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) got his first win of the season, going seven innings, striking out four and only walking one. He also only allowed two runs. Nate Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) closed the game out, going two innings of two hit baseball.
 
Geneva was led by Aaron Babu who went 2-for-4 and recorded one RBI. Zack Sackett also went 2-for-4 and recorded an RBI.
 
Collin Porter pitched five innings, striking out four and allowing six runs. 
 
In game two, the Tomcats played from behind as Geneva struck first in the bottom half of the first inning. 
 
The Tomcats had a 7-6 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth, but Geneva walked it off when Adrian Tapia walked with the bases loaded to bring in the winning run.
 
Thiel was led by JT Gerle (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge) who went 2-for-5 with four RBIs. Bintrim, Morrison and Guarnieri all recorded one RBI a piece.
 
Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) started on the mound for the Tomcats, going 5.1 innings, striking out five and allowing four runs. Nathan Doutt (Edinboro, Pa./General McClane), Ian Mills (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) and Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) pitched in relief, with Bintrim earning his first loss of the season. 
 
Geneva was led by Adrian Tapia who went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and Harrison Burns who went 1-for-1 with two RBIs and four walks.
 
Ryan Conover started for Geneva, going six innings, striking out seven and only walking one. Kirk Bearjar and Ethan Blair pitched in relief, with Blair earning his second win of the season.
 
The Tomcats return to Tomcat Park on Tuesday for a non-conference game against Fredonia. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
