NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team lost a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) games to the Westminster Titans Sunday afternoon.
The Titans won game one in 10 innings 4-3 before shutting out the Tomcats 7-0 in game two.
In game one, the Tomcats took an early 1-0 lead after
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) drove in
Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth). Westminster would come back to tie it in the fourth inning, before adding two runs in the seventh inning to take a 3-1 lead.
The Tomcats clawed back, scoring one run in both the eighth and ninth innings, before the Titans walked it off in the bottom of the tenth inning.
The Tomcats were led in game one by
Calvin Cackowski (Wickliffe, Ohio/Wickliffe) who went 3-for-5 with one RBI.
Ethan Bintrim (New Castle, Pa./Shenango) and
Colton Brightwell (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) each recorded an RBI as well.
Alec Katon (Ashtabula, Ohio/Edgewood) started the game on the mound, pitching 6.1 innings, giving up three runs on five hits, and striking out seven.
Ian Mills (Alliance, Ohio/Marlington) pitched three innings, giving up one run on one hit.
Westminster was led by Frankie Manios who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Matthew Randza and Donald Shimko both recorded an RBI.
Jake Vitale started the game for the Titans, going seven innings giving up two runs and striking out eight. Kolton Banfi pitched three innings, allowing one run on four hits, earning the win.
In game two, the Tomcats out hit the Titans 10-8, but could not garner any runs.
Thiel was led by Cackowski who went 2-for-3.
Aidan Ochs (Rostraver Township, Pa./Belle Veron) went 2-for-5, while
Nick Guarnieri (Niles, Ohio/Mckinley) went 2-for-4.
JT Gerle (Ambridge, Pa./Ambridge),
Seth Johnson (Magnolia, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley),
Chase Morrison (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) and Brightwell all recorded one hit a piece.
Travis Harvey (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) started on the mound going five innings, striking out two and walking two.
Nate Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) pitched two innings, allowing two hits and struck out one.
Westminster was led by Jake Dockum who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Seth Schrader went 2-for-4 with one RBI.
Ryan Gibbons started for the Titans, going six innings, striking out three and walking one. Timothy Lewis went three innings only giving up two hits.
The Tomcats are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Pitt Greensburg. The nonconference game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
