GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's lacrosse team was defeated 15-13 Tuesday by the Grove City Wolverines in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game at Alumni Stadium.
Thiel closed out the second quarter with three consecutive goals to force a 7-7 tie at halftime.
Ashlyn Wightman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Shaler),
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) and
Nielah Jones (Baltimore, Md./Catholic) scored one goal apiece during the stretch, the last of which was scored by Jones with just three seconds remaining before the break.
Grove City responded with five straight goals to open the third quarter and held on for the league win.
Wightman led the Tomcats with seven points (6G, 1A). She also contributed six draw controls, four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Johnson scored four goals to go along with four ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover.
Mary Cassano (Fairview, Pa./McDowell) tallied two points (1G, 1A) while also contributing five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Madison Nazigian led Grove City with six goals. Mara Polczynski recorded four points (3G, 1A) while also notching six draw controls, five caused turnovers and five ground balls.
Justina Jenkins (Dresden, N.Y./Penn Yan) made six saves for Thiel. Elyse Kiggins made five saves for Grove City.
The Tomcats will face the Saint Vincent Bearcats on the road Friday. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
