GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's volleyball team defeated the Saint Vincent Bearcats in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) match, 3-1, Saturday night.
Prior to the game, the Tomcats honored seniors
Nick Koorsen (North Myrtle Beach, S.C./Shaler Area),
Jacob Smeltzer (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) and
Zac Smith (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks).
The Tomcats dominated the first set, winning 25-9. Saint Vincent came back and won the second set 25-21. However, the Tomcats would win the final two sets 25-23, 26-24 to win the conference match.
For the Tomcats, Smith led the team with 14 kills and 12 digs. He also recorded a .225 hitting percentage.
David Gonzalez (El Paso, Texas/Eastwood) recorded six kills and 13 digs, while
James Cromwell-Young (Virginia Beach, Va./Green Run) recorded seven kills and three blocks. Smeltzer recorded six kills and four digs, while Koorsen recorded eight digs.
Ethan Cooper (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) recorded 23 assists, and
Cameron Long (Rock Hill, S.C./Legion Collegiate Academy) recorded a team-high 14 digs.
Saint Vincent was led by Matthew Minkin who recorded a game-high 20 kills to go along with 13 digs. Shawn McSwiggen recorded 16 kills and 16 digs. Zach Wyant notched a game-high 29 assists.
The Tomcats will conclude the regular season on the road against Mount Aloysius on Saturday. The AMCC game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
