LATROBE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team won a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game over the Saint Vincent Bearcats, 67-66, Wednesday night.
Saint Vincent started the game with a 13-4 scoring run, giving them an early nine point lead. The Tomcats cut into that lead, to make it a three point game. But, Saint Vincent would close the first half with a 16-10 run to lead 37-28 at halftime.
The Bearcats held a 15-point lead with 11:21 remaining in the game. From that point, the Tomcats would outscore the Bearcats 26-10 to earn the come from behind victory.
A two-point jumper from freshman
Elijah Harden (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) with 56 seconds remaining gave the Tomcats the lead for good.
Thiel was led by
Mike Brown (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park) and
Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill), who each tallied 16 points. Ellerbee added five rebounds and three assists. Brown also shot 4-6 (67 percent) from three-point range.
Rayshod Hooper (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) notched a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 11 boards. This is Hooper's third double-double of the season. Harden tallied nine points, three rebounds and three assists.
Saint Vincent was led by Jaden Giles who tallied a game-high 21 points. Shemar Bennett notched a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards.
The Tomcats return to PAC play on Sunday when they host the Chatham Cougars. The conference game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
