Tomcats challenge first-place Presidents

WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on the road Monday to the Washington & Jefferson Presidents, 59-42.
 
Thiel trailed by just four points at halftime (30-26), but W&J claimed a 10-point lead with 4:10 remaining in the third quarter and led by as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter.
 
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) secured a game-high 18 rebounds for the Tomcats to go along with 13 points to record her 11th double-double of the season. With her 13 points Monday, Johnson moved into 10th place on the program's career points list (1,119) surpassing Penny Aits who scored 1,107 points from 1980-84.
 
Shayla Foster (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) and Lexy Wagner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) scored eight points apiece while Destiny Merriwether (Youngstown, Ohio/East) corralled 10 rebounds.
 
Meghan Dryburgh scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Presidents. Bryn Bezjak scored 12 points while Sarah Berardelli secured 10 rebounds.
 
The Tomcats will host the Saint Vincent Bearcats Wednesday at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium. The PAC game will begin at 6 p.m.
