Tomcats down Hawks

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team won a non-conference game over the Hilbert Hawks, 19-6, Saturday afternoon. 
 
Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land) opened the scoring with a goal just over five minutes into the game. Hilbert tied it up, at 1-1, before Che Fuqua (Clairton, Pa./Lincoln Park) gave the Tomcats the lead again. Hilbert would tie it 3-3, before the Tomcats would score seven un-answered goals in the first half to give the Tomcats the lead for good. 
 
Thiel would outscore Hilbert 9-3 in the second half to earn the non-conference win.
 
Thiel was led by Zach Melin (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon), who tallied eight goals and one assist. Bennett Medyn (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra Macedon) and Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land) recorded three goals apiece. Lawler also recorded four assists and 13 ground balls. Matt Edlinger (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) recorded a game-high 14 ground balls, and won 85 percent (23-27) of his faceoffs.
 
Thiel's Jason Masciantonio (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) recorded 12 saves in the win. 
 
Hilbert was led by Ryan Davis and Joey DiMaria who each tallied two goals. DiMaria also recorded and assist. Ryan Fitch recorded a team-high seven groundballs.
 
Hilbert's Griffin Miller recorded 10 saves in the loss.
 
Thiel will host the Malone Pioneers on Wednesday. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
