BEAVER FALLS, Pa. –
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) scored her 1,000
th career point Wednesday in Thiel College's 114-79 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) loss on the road to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes.
Johnson's 1,000
th career point came with 3:59 remaining in the first quarter. After securing an offensive rebound, Johnson's career achievement came on a left-handed layup. She became the 16
th player in program history to reach the 1,000-point plateau.
Johnson led all players Wednesday with 25 points, 21 rebounds and six assists. It was her eighth double-double of the season. She also recorded four steals and a block. Johnson made 7-of-18 shots from the floor and went 11-for-16 from the charity stripe.
With her 25 points, Johnson moved into 14
th place (1,019) on Thiel's career scoring list, surpassing Marlana Tice who scored 1,016 points in the 1980s. She also moved into sixth place on the career rebounds list (786), passing Kelly Barzak who amassed 773 rebounds from 2009-13.
Destiny Merriwether (Youngstown, Ohio/East) scored 11 points Wednesday while securing five rebounds.
Taylor Susany (Struthers, Ohio/Struthers) and
Shayla Foster (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) scored 10 and nine points, respectively.
Taylor Haring led Geneva with 17 points. Isabella Roth scored 16 points off the bench while Mia San Nicolas scored 15 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Tomcats will host the Westminster Titans Saturday at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium. Tipoff for the PAC game is slated for 1 p.m.
