BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes, 70-67, Wednesday night.
Geneva opened up a quick 6-0 lead, but the Tomcats fought back. The Tomcats responded with an 8-0 run of their own to take an early lead. Geneva would hold a three-point lead at the half.
The Tomcats opened the second half on a 7-2 run to take an early four-point lead. But Geneva would respond.
With 39 seconds remaining, freshman
Elijah Harden (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) hit a jumper to tie the game at 64. Geneva would then go on a 5-0 run to seal the victory for the Golden Tornadoes.
The Tomcats were led by Harden who scored a career-high 24 points to go along with four rebounds. Harden also shot 4-5 from three-point range. Junior
Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) recorded 12 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Freshman
Rudy Hyppolite (Lauderhill, Fla./Boyd Anderson) recorded nine points to go along with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Rayshod Hooper (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) and
Mike Brown (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park) each recorded seven points.
Beni Lavodrama (Washington, D.C./Phelps ACE) recorded eight points and six rebounds.
Lyle Tipton paced the Golden Tornadoes with 25 points and six rebounds. Isaac Massie recorded 16 points while Ryan Rachic recorded 11 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Trevor Tipton also scored double-digit points with 10.
The Tomcats return to Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium on Saturday to take on the Westminster Titans. The PAC game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
