GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel Tomcats lost a non-conference game to the Allegheny Gators Saturday at Alumni Stadium, 34-6.
Trailing 19-0 near the end of the first half, senior linebacker
Andrew Plowden (Homewood, Pa./Penn Hills Charter) came up with a splash play for the Tomcats when he picked off a pass at his 40-yard line and ran 60 yards for a touchdown.
It was the second pick-six for Thiel's defense in as many games after
Raymond Jackson (Pittsburgh, Pa./Imani Christian Academy) scored on an 82-yard return in the season opener against Montclair State.
Allegheny went on to add two more touchdowns in the second half. Trey Worship scored on a three-yard run with 2:25 remaining in the third quarter to cap off a seven-play, 46-yard drive. Antwan Brown finished off an 11-play, 34-yard drive with 12:22 left in the fourth quarter on a two-yard run.
Worship ran for 47 yards and scored two touchdowns on 23 carries.
Deon Logan (Richmond, Va./James River) paced Thiel with 29 yards on the ground on 10 totes. He also caught three passes for 17 yards.
Allegheny's Jack Johnson completed 13-of-24 passes for 117 yards. Johnson threw one touchdown pass and one interception. Thiel's
Alexander Kovalyak (DuBois, Pa./DuBois) completed 10 passes for 74 yards while running for 26 yards on six totes.
Thiel's
Andre Rodgers (Euclid, Ohio/Benedictine) led all players in receptions (5) and receiving yards (50). Austin Ferguson had two catches for the Gators for 49 yards.
Chad Morningstar (Saxton, Pa./Tussey Mountain) led the Tomcats with eight tackles.
Caleb Shuler (New Brighton, Pa./New Brighton) made seven tackles and broke up two passes.
Jaellen Rose (Midlothian, Va./James River) made five tackles and recorded the only sack in the game.
The Tomcats will go on the road next Saturday to take on the Saint Vincent Bearcats. Kickoff for the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game is set for 1 p.m.
