LATROBE, Pa. – The Thiel College softball team concluded its season Saturday with a pair of Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) losses on the road to the Saint Vincent Bearcats.
Saint Vincent edged Thiel 12-11 in the first game before winning 8-0 in five innings in the second game.
Thiel led 6-0 midway through the second inning in the first game.
Dani Ficeti (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) hit a run-scoring double in the first inning. In the second,
Kylee Yothers (Indian Head, Pa./Connellsville Area) drove in a pair of runs on a double to right center while Ficeti collected her second RBI of the game on an outfield single.
Saint Vincent responded with seven runs in the bottom of the second, but Thiel countered with five runs in its next two at-bats to lead 11-7.
Riley Ladd (Mineral Ridge, Ohio/Mineral Ridge) drove in a run in the third while Yothers recorded a pair of RBIs on a double to right field.
The Bearcats scored two runs in the fifth to tie up the game. Saint Vincent scored the game-winning run in the eighth after Jessica LaPorte and Alexandra Dillner led off the inning with back-to-back doubles.
Ficeti went 4-for-4 with two RBIs, two doubles and a run scored in Game 1. Yothers went 2-for-5 with four RBIs, two doubles and a run scored.
Julianna Sloan (Kingsville, Ohio/Edgewood) and
Casey Buechel (Allison Park, Pa./Deer Lakes) both recorded a double and a single.
Saint Vincent held a 7-0 lead after two innings in the second game. The Bearcats made it 8-0 in the fourth to win their second game of the day in five innings.
Abby Rottman (Hilliards, Pa./Moniteau) singled for the Tomcats in the second game.
