Thiel rallies for 17-16 win over W&J on Senior Day

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team erased an 8-5 halftime deficit Saturday at Alumni Stadium to earn a 17-16 Presidents' Athletic Conference win over the Washington & Jefferson Presidents.

Selom Kalin-Samlan (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill), Pat Hartnett (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and Dylan Waskiewicz (York, Pa./Red Lion) each scored early in the third frame to tie the game, 8-8. Thiel went on to score five more goals in the third quarter to hold a 13-11 lead after 45 minutes.

The Presidents opened the fourth quarter with two consecutive goals to tie up the game, 13-13, but the Tomcats rattled off three straight goals, two of which were scored by Hartnett, to hold a 16-13 lead with less than seven minutes remaining.

Bennett Medyn (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra Macedon) scored what would count as the game-winning goal on a pass from Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land) with 1:50 remaining.

Hartnett led the Tomcats with 11 points (5G, 6A). His six assists set a new single-game program record, while his 11 points tied him for the second-most in single-game program history.

Nick Sylvis (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) scored five goals while Medyn tallied four points (2G, 2A) and caused three turnovers. Waskiewicz potted two goals and added an assist for three points.

Alex Strain led the Presidents with 10 points (9G, 1A) while Carter Watts recorded six points (2G, 4A).

Jason Masciantonio (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) made seven saves for the Tomcats. Henry Beardwood denied 13 shots for the Presidents.

Kalin-Samlan, Darien Mosley (Baltimore, Md./Patapsco H.S. & Center for the Arts), Anthony Richards (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), Sylvis and Waskiewicz were honored prior to the game with Senior Day.
