GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team was defeated, 11-1 by the Allegheny Gators in a non-conference match on Tuesday.
The Tomcats and Gators both got on the board in the fourth to tie the game at one apiece. The Gators got to the Tomcats' bullpen and scored two runs in the fifth and eight in the sixth to win 11-1.
Jamin Wentling (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) hit a single and scored the Tomcats' lone run.
Mike Sittig (Monaca, Pa./Central Valley) drove in Wentling on an RBI-ground out. On the mound,
Will Brandsema (Orlando, Fla./Cypress Creek) allowed just one unearned run in four innings with two strikeouts.
Nathan Lucas (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) allowed just one hit and one walk in two shutout innings.
Patrick Shirey (Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) also pitched a shutout inning.
Josh Ickes (Greenville, Pa./Greenville) was charged with the loss in relief.
For the Gators, Alejandro Samayoa went 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs, and two RBIs. Starter Bobby Kusinsky struck out five and allowed one run in five innings to earn the win.
The Tomcats begin a three-game series against the Grove City Wolverines Thursday at Tomcat Park at 4 p.m.
