NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team lost a non-conference game on the road Saturday to the Muskingum Fighting Muskies, 16-6.
Thiel trailed 10-3 at halftime but scored three straight goals in less than two minutes in the third quarter to get back into the game.
Nick Sylvis (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) started the run when he scored a man-up goal on a pass from
Pat Hartnett (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland).
Chase Lawler (Etters, Pa./Red Land) scored an unassisted goal little over a minute later. Sylvis scored his second goal of the game 25 seconds later, this one at even strength on a pass from
Zach Melin (Chardon, Ohio/Chardon), to cut the lead down to 10-6.
The Fighting Muskies went on to score six straight goals to close out the game and earn the non-conference win to improve to 6-2 on the season.
Sylvis (2G, 1A) and Hartnett (1G, 2A) led the Tomcats with three points apiece. Lawler scored two goals while Melin registered two points (1G, 1A),
Jack Watts led Muskingum with five goals.
Jason Masciantonio (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) made 15 saves and scooped up eight ground balls. Trevor Connolly made eight saves for Muskingum.
Thiel (2-3) will face Alfred (5-0) on the road on Saturday. The non-conference game will begin at 1 p.m.
