NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The sixth-seeded Thiel College men's basketball team was defeated, 66-68, by the third-seeded Titans in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament quarterfinals.
In the first half, the Tomcats began with an 11-2 run to take an early lead. The Titans answered with a 10-point run later in the half to take a 20-19 lead with 8:34 until the break. The Tomcats responded by outscoring the Titans 20-5 to close out the half leading 39-25.
In the second half, the Titans drew close with a 10-2 run out of the break. Despite the Titans drawing close, the Tomcats held the lead for most of the half until the Titans tied the game at 66 with just 25 seconds remaining. The Titans broke the tie with the game-winning bucket in the final seconds, as the Tomcats fell 66-68.
For the Tomcats,
Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) led the team with 16 points and tallied seven rebounds and three assists.
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) and
Rayshod Hooper (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) each notched double-doubles. Tejumola scored 15 points with 10 boards and Hooper scored 12 points with a game-high 11 boards.
Daquan Simmons (Capitol Heights, Md./Central) and
John Aarestrup (Miami, Fla./Archbishop Coleman Carroll) each scored eight points.
Beni Lavodrama (Washington, D.C./Phelps ACE) grabbed seven rebounds with two steals and a block.
For the Titans, Reese Leone hit the game-winning two-pointer. Josh Hutcherson led the game with 23 points and recorded 10 rebounds.
The loss eliminates the Tomcats from the PAC Championship Tournament, and the Titans will face the Chatham Cougars in the semifinals.
