GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's basketball team defeated the Saint Vincent Bearcats 56-55 in its regular season finale Saturday at Beeghly Gymnasium.
In a game that featured 10 ties and seven lead changes, the Tomcats held a slight lead over the Bearcats at halftime (26-24).
Tied up 40-40 heading into the fourth quarter, the Tomcats went on to lead by eight points (50-42) near the midpoint of the final frame after
Lexy Wagner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Keystone Oaks) made a layup at the end of a 10-2 run. The Tomcats refused to give up the lead the rest of the way.
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) scored a game-best 18 points and grabbed five rebounds. Johnson also tallied two blocks and two steals.
Colleen Trainer (Latrobe, Pa./Mount Pleasant) scored a season-high 13 points to go along with four rebounds and two steals.
Wagner scored 12 points for the Tomcats, nine of which came from behind the 3-point line.
Destiny Merriwether (Youngstown, Ohio/East) led all players with a career-best 12 rebounds.
Emily Harriman (Geneva, Ohio/Geneva) contributed seven points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Taylor Geer paced the Bearcats with 13 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Emily Cavacini and Ella Marconi scored 11 points apiece.

Bailee Gregor (Meadville, Pa./Meadville), Harriman and Trainer were recognized prior to the game with Senior Day.
The Tomcats qualified as the No. 9 seed in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament. Thiel will face eighth-seeded Waynesburg on the road Monday in a tournament play-in game. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
