GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's lacrosse team opened its season Saturday with a 19-8 non-conference loss to the Mount Union Purple Raiders at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome.
The Purple Raiders led by two goals at halftime (8-6) but went on to outscore the Tomcats 8-0 in the third quarter to claim the non-conference win.
Mount Union's Eli Ciotti scored three of his game-high five goals in the third quarter. Logan Addonizio scored four goals and added a pair of assists to finish with six points. Mike Doyle won 14 faceoffs and picked up eight ground balls.
Bennett Medyn (Macedon, N.Y./Palmyra Macedon) led the Tomcats with four points (3G, 1A) while also recording three ground balls.
Dylan Waskiewicz (York, Pa./Red Lion) and
Selom Kalin-Samlan (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) both scored a goal and assisted on two goals to finish with three points.
Jason Masciantonio (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) made 12 saves for the Tomcats. Kyle Reihner made nine saves for Mount Union.
The Tomcats will host the Hilbert Hawks Wednesday at the Rissell-Schreyer Dome. The non-conference game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
