Bison top Tomcats in PAC Championship Tournament title match

Torres, McDonald named to All-Tournament Team

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The sixth-seeded Bethany Bison defeated the top-seeded Thiel Tomcats 3-1 Saturday in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Championship Tournament title match at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.
 
Thiel took the first set (25-19), but Bethany won the next three games (25-19, 25-21, 29-27) to clinch the title.
 
Maria Torres (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) led all players with 27 digs and 15 kills. Raquel McDonald (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) tallied nine kills and five blocks. Torres and McDonald were both named to the PAC All-Tournament Team Saturday night.
 
Kylee Eaton (Parker, Pa./AC Valley) recorded six kills while Cassandra Bown (Broadalbin, N.Y./Broadalbin-Perth) had five kills and four blocks. Jordyn Liedike (Anchorage, Alaska/Grace Christian) led all players with six blocks while also contributing four kills.
 
Brooke Talbot (Calcutta, Ohio/Beaver Local) registered 20 assists and nine digs while Carlie Reynolds (Grove City, Pa./Grove City Area) had 20 assists. Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kansas/Mineral Ridge) contributed 21 digs.
 
Emma Marthins led Bethany with 14 kills. Hannah Rogers tallied 12 digs and 10 kills. Alaina Torres, who distributed 45 assists and 11 digs Saturday, was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
 
Thiel played in the title match for the fourth time in program history and for the first time since 2012. The Tomcats secured the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament for the first time in program history.
