GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team lost a Presidents' Athletic Conference matchup to the Washington and Jefferson Presidents, 101-94, in overtime Saturday afternoon.
The Presidents would find themselves ahead 56-42 at the halftime break. However, the Tomcats came storming back in the second half, jumping out to a four-point lead with just over two minutes to play. A free throw from Washington and Jefferson's Beckett Connelly with a little less than a second to play sent it to overtime.
In overtime, the Tomcats would jump out to a three-point lead, but a 12-5 run from the Presidents gave them the lead for good.
For the Tomcats,
Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) led the team with 23 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists.
Ethan Barnes (Boynton Beach, Fla./Suncoast) recorded 18 points and five rebounds, while
Rayshod Hooper (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) recorded 16 points to go along with nine rebounds.
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-best 14 rebounds. This is Tejumola's third double-double of the season.
For the Presidents, Matt Seidl had a game-high 32 points, including going 12-14 from the free-throw line. J.R. Mazza recorded 15 points, and Kyran Mitchell recorded 13 points.
The Tomcats finish off a three-game home-stand on Tuesday when they welcome the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets to Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
