GREENVILLE, Pa. – Fifth-year senior forward
Destiny Johnson (Baltimore, Md./Western) broke the program record for rebounds in a game in Thiel's 95-66 season-opening loss to the Geneva Golden Tornadoes Thursday at Beeghly Gymnasium.
Johnson recorded 28 rebounds Thursday, passing Sue Chomos who held the program record (24) since 1993. Johnson set the single-season program record for rebounds in a season as a freshman in 2018-19 (304). She currently ranks 11
th in program history in career rebounds (631).
Johnson also scored a game-high 22 points Thursday. She made 9-of-15 shots from the floor and went 4-for-6 at the line.
Senior forward
Destiny Merriwether (Youngstown, Ohio/East) scored 12 points and corralled seven rebounds.
Taylor Susany (Struthers, Ohio/Struthers) and
Jessica Wagner (Tionesta, Pa./West Forest) scored eight and seven points, respectively.
Isabella Roth led Geneva with 19 points. Mia San Nicolas and Madi Matthews scored 14 points apiece. Emily Bucheit led the Golden Tornadoes with 10 rebounds.
The Tomcats will host the Washington & Jefferson Presidents Saturday. The Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game will begin at 1 p.m.
