NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team opened play Friday in the Buzz Ridl Classic, hosted by Westminster College, with a 108-86 win over the Penn State Shenango Nittany Lions.
Thiel built an 11-poiont lead with 8:37 remaining in the first half after
Rayshod Hooper (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) scored on a layup. The Tomcats went on to lead by as many as 29 points in the second half.
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) recorded a double-double for the Tomcats with 19 points and a game-best 11 rebounds. He also had five assists. Hooper scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) and
Ethan Barnes (Boynton Beach, Fla./Suncoast) chipped in with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
Thiel dominated points in the paint (72-34) and fast break points (26-15).
D'Montez Owens paced PSU-Shenango with 20 points and four rebounds.

The Tomcats (1-1) will conclude play in the Buzz Ridl Classic Saturday when they face the Southern Virginia University Knights (0-1) at noon.
