LATROBE, Pa. – The Thiel College women's volleyball team earned a 3-2 Presidents' Athletic Conference win Thursday on the road over the Saint Vincent Bearcats.
Thiel won the first two sets 25-22, 25-13. Saint Vincent forced a fifth game after winning 27-25, 25-21 in the third and fourth sets.
Tied 8-8 midway through the fifth set,
Raquel McDonald (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Grimes) tallied back-to-back kills to give Thiel a 10-8 lead. The Tomcats led throughout the remainder of the last set, picking up their 14
th point on a kill by
Maria Torres (Boardman, Ohio/Boardman) and their 15
th point on an attack error by the Bearcats.
Torres led all players with 31 kills, tying her for the second most in a match in PAC history and the most since Thiel's Alyssa Chine also tallied 31 kills in a 3-2 win over Thomas More on October 11, 2011. Torres also led the Tomcats with 29 digs.
McDonald recorded 19 kills while
Erica Gregory (Clinton Township, Mich./Fraser) had 24 digs and four kills.
Danielle Aulet (Lawrence, Kansas/Mineral Ridge) tallied 28 digs while
Brooke Talbot (Calcutta, Ohio/Beaver Local) registered 42 assists and nine digs.
Kaelyn Staples paced the Bearcats with 19 kills. Carly Augustine notched 30 digs and 10 kills.
The Tomcats (17-10, 8-1 PAC) will conclude regular-season play Saturday when they host the Allegheny Gators (17-10, 7-2 PAC) at 6 p.m.
