GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team defeated the Grove City Wolverines, 69-54, in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Monday.
The Tomcats came firing out of the gates with a 17-6 run in the first 7:27. Thiel took advantage of the early run and kept the lead the rest of the first half, leading 34-23 at the break. The largest Tomcat lead in the half was 16 (32-16).
In the second half, the Tomcats continued to control the game. In just the first 5:33, the Tomcats outscored the Wolverines 12-2 to take a 46-25 lead. Thiel took a commanding 27-point (59-32) lead with 9:37 to play in the game, their largest lead of the game, and would be more than enough to secure the victory, with a final score of 69-54.
Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) led the game with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting. He also chipped in three assists and a steal.
Rayshod Hooper (Baltimore, Md./St. Frances Academy) recorded his first career double-double with 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 13 rebounds.
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) notched 11 points with six rebounds and a block.
Beni Lavodrama (Washington, D.C./Phelps ACE) tallied nine points with four rebounds and a steal.
For the Wolverines, Ben Rose and Christian Wiseman scored 10 points apiece. Rose also led the Wolverines with six boards.
The Tomcats will look to maintain momentum as they host the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
