Tomcats' comeback thwarted by Cougars

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men's basketball team was defeated, 66-80, by the Chatham Cougars in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) game on Wednesday.
 
Chatham began the game with an eight-point run until the Tomcats got on the board. The Tomcats began to come back at just over the quarter point in the game (9:26 remaining in the first half), and the Cougars led 20-14. A 23-10 run to close out the half would give the Cougars a 43-24 lead heading into halftime.
 
In the second half, Chatham extended its lead to 21, with the score at 52-31. However, the Tomcats went to work, scoring 17 unanswered points to cut the Cougars lead to just four (52-48). After a Cougars free throw and a Tomcat three-pointer, the Tomcats trailed by just two points. With 9:26 to play in the game. Thiel kept within striking distance, but still trailed 54-59 with 5:33 left in the contest. Chatham ended the game with a 21-12 run to secure their victory and stave off the Tomcat comeback.
 
Ahmad Tejumola (Waldorf, Md./Saint Charles) led the Tomcats with 25 points, the third highest point total in his career, and 19 rebounds, the second highest rebound total in his career. It was his eighth double-double of the season in just fourteen games. He ranks first in the conference with 11.8 rebounds per game this season. Tejumola also shot 8-of-15 from the field and 9-of-12 from the free throw line.
 
Beni Lavodrama (Washington, D.C./Phelps ACE) and Ethan Barnes (Boynton Beach, Fla./Suncoast) tallied 10 points apiece. Lavodrama notched a game-high three steals, along with seven rebounds. Barnes totaled five rebounds and two assists. Marlon Ellerbee (Temple Hills, Md./Oxon Hill) scored seven points and grabbed seven boards with three assists.
 
For the Cougars, Marcos Cintron led the team with 20 points. Malik Potter and Brandon Lavernia scored 14 points apiece.
